Within a scientific research team between the College of Computer Science and Information Technology at University of Al-Qadisiyah in participation with researchers from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in the United States, an innovative technique is presented for diagnosing early status of epileptic attack. IEEE Access journal has published the new technology in a scientific research article. IEEE Access is highly ranked journal with Q1 level in Scopus and has an impact factor of 3.9.

The team consisted of researchers, Assistant Professor Dr. Dhiah Al-Shammary and researcher Mr Mustafa Noman Kadhim from University of Al-Qadisiyah, in participation with researcher Mr Muhammad Sadiq and Professor Mariofanna Milanova from University of Arkansas at Little Rock in the United States.

The research included developing and presenting a new and innovative technology to diagnose epileptic attack at early stage and give patients early warning to avoid accidents. The team discussed the possibility of allowing epileptic patients to drive cars in the future after ensuring their safety and the safety of others from possible accidents that may occur as a result of the vehicle driver’s epileptic attack and his complete loss of control. This can be achieved by interconnecting the early epilepsy diagnosis system with the car’s systems and issuing an instruction for auto-driving or an emergency stop. The team has developed Hellinger distance mathematical model and applying it practically in analysing and diagnosing EEG signals.
